September 2017 Squarespace Product Updates

Every week as a Squarespace Circle Member (sign-up if you regularly build client websites) we get the latest product updates sent to our email. We realized that even though this community is growing, there are a lot of other Squarespace users that don’t get these updates, so the Brad Good team wanted to compile the most important changes every month in a easy to read blog post.

If you are wondering about all of the new updates Squarespace released in September, read more below!

Week: August 21 to August 27.

Highlights

  • Domain transfer timing - Why transferring a domain isn’t instantaneous and tips to help potentially speed up the process.

Week: August 28 to September 3.

Domain and G Suite offers have new expiration dates

The free Squarespace Domain and G Suite inbox offers now must be redeemed within one year of subscribing to an eligible Squarespace plan.

The offer expiration date for eligible plans purchased before September 30, 2016 is the end of this month: September 30, 2017.

Here’s what this might mean for you:

  • For new clients, you could highlight these offers and recommend redeeming them soon after subscribing, while their new website is at the top of their minds. Wait too long, and they’ll forfeit the free year of service and pay full price.

  • For existing clients, you could remind them that these offers are expiring soon. If they haven’t already, this is a good time to take advantage of the promotion.

Once a customer registers a free domain or subscribes to G Suite with the free inbox, the customer will have those service(s) free for a year. This change doesn’t affect already redeemed offers.

Login window on Contact page

Squarespace added a pop-up to the Contact page asking you to log into your account or continue as a guest before you proceed, unless you’re already logged in. If you’re having trouble logging in, you can recover your account from that window.

Logging into the Help site before opening a ticket or chat helps Squarespace’s Advisors answer your questions faster since they have immediate access to useful context and can avoid asking you to verify ownership.

Week: September 4 to September 10.

Highlights

To keep you in the loop about changes to Squarespace documentation and resources, Squarespace will occasionally recap notable additions to guides and videos on support.squarespace.com. Their help site is constantly updated with new information you can browse, use to troubleshoot, and get ideas for client offboarding education.

Week: September 11 to September 17.

Highlights

  • Navigation mobile icons - A breakdown of how the mobile navigation icon (aka “hamburger”) or Menu link displays by template.

  • Planning your first sale or promotion - A guide to setting up an eCommerce discount strategy and the Squarespace features that will help you promote it. This is a great resource to share with startup online store clients.

  • Where does Squarespace store my data? - Information about where Squarespace servers are located and how they serve page content from the data center closest to a visitor’s location.

Week: September 18 to September 24.

Highlights

  • Building a salon site - A guide to building up a site for hair salon, nail salon, spa, tattoo parlor, or any other similar business. It highlights templates, features, and integrations that help a business stand out. This is a great resource to share with your clients who are just starting to build a site for their salon business.

  • What text displays in social posts - A new guide that breaks down which text displays when someone posts a link on social media.

  • Logging into Squarespace - Squarespace added more information about staying logged into an account, and that you’ll stay logged in automatically for 90 days unless you switch browsers, clear your cache, or manually log out.

Adding a background video - Squarespace added more information about recommended video sizes and formatting. They recommend using videos at 720 pixels and around 25 frames per second.
