January 2020 Squarespace Product Updates

Every week as a Squarespace Circle Member (sign-up if you regularly build client websites) we get the latest product updates sent to our email. We realized that even though this community is growing, there are a lot of other Squarespace users that don’t get these updates, so the Brad Good team wanted to compile the most important changes every month in a easy to read blog post.

If you are wondering about all of the new updates Squarespace released in January, read more below!

Week: December 30 - January 5

New Parking Page Behavior

Parking pages now behave more intuitively and are only used when you purchase a new Squarespace Domain (or transfer a domain to Squarespace) and don't need to link the domain to a website.

If your website expires with other active subscriptions (like G Suite, Scheduling, or Email Campaigns), the subscriptions will stay linked to the expired site, rather than move to a parking page. Now, you can manage all existing subscriptions from a familiar interface and still keep any relevant site contributors active.

Week: January 6 - January 12

Add New Products From The iOS Commerce App

You and your clients can now create new physical and service products from the Commerce App for iOS. New products can be available for sale immediately on your site or in Point of Sale, just like any product added from a computer. This has been a top request in Commerce App reviews, and we're excited to make it available!

Week: January 13 - January 20

Version 7.1 In General Availability

Last week, version 7.1 went into general availability for all new English trials. Squarespace received a lot of feedback in the Circle topic about the current lack of a migration path between versions 7.0 and 7.1, and the 7.1 team is considering some options.

Scheduling Available To 100% Of Customers

All Squarespace sites now have access to Scheduling, meaning anyone with an active Squarespace site can try Scheduling for free for 14 days, then upgrade to a paid plan.

As a reminder, Scheduling is designed for people who aren't already using Acuity, but who want to add a booking feature to their Squarespace sites. If you or your clients are already using Acuity, you should keep using the Appointment Scheduling Block with your existing Acuity account.

Learn more in their Scheduling FAQ Help guide.

Week: January 21 - January 26

Scheduling Is Now HIPAA Compliant

Squarespace Scheduling now complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Making Scheduling HIPAA-enabled is a good solution for you or clients who want to collect Protected Health Information through appointments in Scheduling.

Before starting this process, note that:

  • The site must be on the Powerhouse Player Scheduling plan.

  • This update only applies to Squarespace Scheduling. Other Squarespace features, like Form Blocks and Commerce, aren't covered for HIPAA compliance.
